ENVIRONMENT/LABOUR–Environmental Work Exchange in Costa RicaAccepting Applications Young Nova Scotians have the chance to participate in a workexchange program in Central America. The Environmental Leadership Program is building a team of youngNova Scotians and Newfoundlanders to help create a healthierenvironment in Costa Rica. The exchange program runs from lateApril to early September. Six Nova Scotia youth, ages 20 to 24, will join counterparts fromNewfoundland to work on environmental projects in Costa Ricathrough May and June. They will work alongside their Costa Ricancounterparts while being hosted by local families. The second half of the exchange program happens in July andAugust. The Costa Rican young people will return with their NovaScotia partners to work on environmental projects here. Curtis Young, Sydney, participated in a similar exchange lastyear. “Little did I know just how much I would take with me fromthis program,” he said. “I gained more from the exchange than Ihave from any other period in my life.” Mr. Young now works forNova Scotia Environment and Labour. Environment and Labour Minister Kerry Morash says Mr. Young isthe kind of candidate that’s needed for the exchange. “We’relooking for young people who want to learn more about theenvironment and increase their employment skills,” he said. Applicants should be good communicators and be comfortableworking as part of a team. The ability to speak Spanish is notrequired. The Environmental Leadership Program is managed by Nova ScotiaEnvironment and Labour. Partner organizations include the NovaScotia Youth Conservation Corps, Clean Nova Scotia, theConservation Corps of Newfoundland and Labrador, and TallerInternacional in Costa Rica.
