MS Dhoni moves up 3 places in ICC ODI rankings after sensational run in Australia

first_imgMS Dhoni has moved up three places in the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen after scoring thtee successive half-centuries in the series against Australia. Dhoni scored 51, 55 not out and 87 not out as India won their first ever bilateral series in Australia.Following his sensational run of form in Australia, Dhoni got to bat only twice in the five-match series in New Zealand – in the second ODI in Mount Maunganui, Dhoni scored an aggressive 48 not out.MS Dhoni has moved up three places to 17th position after his consistent run. Last year, he went through his leanest patch managing only 275 runs from 20 ODIs without scoring a fifty. Kedar Jadhav has also moved up 8 places to 35th postion in the ICC rankings for batsmen in ODIs.Indian batsmen continued to dominate the top-10 in the ICC ranking for ODI batsmen. Virat Kohli, who did not play the last two ODIs against New Zealand is No.1 with 887 points. Rohit Sharma, who stood in as India captain for Kohli is second with 854 points.Rohit’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan is 10th in the list with 744 points. With MS Dhoni at 17th, India now have four batsmen in the top 20. Kedar Jadhav (up eight places to 35th) is another one to advance for India.India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (up one place to fifth) and fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar (up six places to 17th) are among others to move up in the latest rankings.Meanwhile, New Zealand bowler Trent Boult has moved to third spot in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers after picking 12 wickets in the ODI series against India.advertisementBoult grabbed his fifth five-wicket haul in the Hamiltin ODI on Thursday and three wickets on Sunday in Wellington to jump seven positions in the rankings.Boult had topped the rankings in January 2016, and is again on his way up, with only Bumrah and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan ahead of him.The Indian team meanwhile, rose a rung to second in the team rankings.
