GEEK PICK BioShock Big Daddy Plush

first_imgIn BioShock, Big Daddies are hulking armored genetically modified bodyguards for Little Sisters, genetically modified girls who harvest powerful genetic material for the genetically modified underwater citizens of Rapture. There’s a real theme there. Big Daddies are the toughest, scariest enemies in the game. They’ll leave you alone if you don’t bother them, but try to free (or harvest) a Little Sister and they’ll drill right through you. This Big Daddy plush isn’t quite as scary, but at 17 inches it is big. It’s meant to resemble the Big Daddy dolls Little Sisters carry around with them for comfort. It’s “Mr. Bubbles” with his silly helmet and floppy pointy arm. Divorced from the original context it is cute. And with the original context it is darkly hilarious to play around with a soft squishy toy version of a monster that would give you nightmares otherwise. The existence of a new BioShock is still just a rumor. It didn’t show up at this E3 so it may be a year or more away from announcement. And it may not even feature Big Daddies. It could be set in some radical centrist wonderland in the middle of the Grand Canyon. But BioShock and Big Daddies will always go hand in hand like Little Sisters and Big Daddies. So take this BioShock Big Daddy Plush in your hand.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey. Stay on target Over a decade ago BioShock became one of the defining games of that generation. It was a first-person shooter with claustrophobic, almost survival-horror gunplay as well as body horror abilities like shooting fire or bees out of your hands. But beyond that, it told a thoughtful gaming story about choices and how building a giant city underwater was an idea so stupid only an objectivist could have come up with it.Since then BioShock became an iconic modern gaming franchise, even if the public’s thoughts on the sequels BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite have become more mixed. We haven’t heard much from BioShock in years, after a canceled PlayStation Vita project. But rumors suggest the franchise should be resurfacing soon. In the meantime, revisit Rapture with this BioShock Big Daddy plush ($40).center_img Geek Pick: Shure MV88+ Is An Excellent, On the Go Microphone KitGeek Pick: Amazon Smart Plug Puts Alexa in Your Walls last_img
