RIALTO – Eisenhower High School is seeking an athletic director. The surprising development comes on the heels of current AD Tom Hoak being promoted to assistant principal. Hoak’s 1993 Ike team went 14-0 and won the CIF-Southern Section Division I title, defeating Santa Ana Mater Dei 56-3 at Anaheim Stadium. The Eagles were ranked second in the nation by USA Today to Cleveland St. Ignatius. Hoak’s Ike teams won six league titles. A youthful-looking 57 years old, Hoak is a San Bernardino High School graduate. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. I knew last week there were going to be some changes involving me, but I thought they’d be down the road.” Instead, Hoak was informed last Friday of his new position. He is currently doing both jobs, although the AD job will be opened soon. Before that happens the job must be “flown” (opened) for five working days. “It’s with a heavy heart that I leave the AD job,” said Hoak, who is in his fourth year in the position. “I love the job and I love Ike athletics. But I need to help the school by taking this (assistant principal) position right now. By no means was I looking to get out of the AD job, but we needed to fill this position.” When asked if an administrator at Ike had been fired, opening the position, Hoak declined to comment, saying it is a “personnel issue.” The assistant principal’s job will mean more money for Hoak, who previously was the football coach for 19 years at Ike. He also coached Pacific for five years.
